i never thought i would be posting a pic of my legs, but there you go.
a pair of legwarmes i knitted up in preparation for create-boutique's knit class i will be giving in september. these were super easy, i cannot tell you - took me about an hour and i made them up in rowan cocoon, and size 7mm needles. all ends up lovely and yummily soft.
the pattern goes something like this :
cast on 38 stitches, knit 1 purl 1 for 10 rows, carry on in one row plain, one row purl for 64 rows, then end off with knit 1 purl 1 for the last 10 rows.
and there you go, couldn't be more simple.

These do look deliciously warm! (I'm making legwarmers too, but thin sockwool ones - with a very frustrating fiddly pattern... I might just frog them and make your version.)
