Here, there and everywhere

Lest you should think I have completely and utterly gone to ground (and this presupposes that anyone is interested), um, I'm around, doing stuff, going places.
Went home for a wedding.
Then went to Milan for my birthday.
And then went for a walk just 30 minutes from my flat.

In between, there's been some knitting (as always) with new colours, yarns, and patterns.
Good to be back in the thick of things again, missed y'all.

New city, new you.

Writing this whilst sick - flu - awful.  I blame my new home, far too much fresh air, clean and clear water and the beer is way too strong!  Yip, I've moved to Zurich and got sick.
Moving countries and starting a new job all in the last two weeks was more stress inducing than I thought, and on top of that still trying to knit orders (which are very far behind, alas).  So whilst I sit and recover and knit away, some first impressions of my new city.

Oh, and this photo, thought it looked really effective to crochet the photos together.

So far woolshops seem a little thin on the ground, but hopefully we'll spot some soon else there may be a hefty Ebay shipping bill on the horizon.

All systems green

Another chance trip to Paris in the last few days, and my what a difference a month makes.  Paris is blooming, it's so unbelievably green and so so pretty.
Well, with a little bit of pink and purple too.

Paris, mais oui!

The most logical way to celebrate a birthday is of course to spend the day in Paris - as you do.  A few snapshots from a rather enjoyable day.
Yip, a wool shop, Parisian style.
The Paris Royal Opera House, a particularly grand building making it a little difficult to take a decent photograph, but the beautiful, bright winter sunshine really made her shine.
Um, yes, those would be the pretty bicycles.....no really.

Colour of the Year

According to those in the know, tangerine is the 2012 colour of the year, not just tangerine, mind, but Tango Tangerine.  And what with being so "bang on trend" here, we just happened to have some tangerine yarn in our massive stash of yarn.
Initially wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with the yarn (it can be a difficult colour - it's in between an adult and a kid colour - if that makes sense) - anyway, settled on another version of the cable knot cushion I knitted previously in pepper grey - this time, knitting in a slightly smaller size (50 x 30cm which has now become my new favourite size - perfect really, it's not too big and not too small to get lost amongst the masses of other cushions plonked on the sofa!).

So there we have it, Strikk Handknit's homage to 2012 Colour of the Year available at our online shops here, here and here.

Oh, and remember that mess we had trying to photograph cushions previously - um, here ? Well, we've moved it all inside, ironed the vinyl and made a makeshift studio in the bedroom - now, that's rock 'n roll photography for ya!

big big sky

I was lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time recently in my home town, Cape Town.  One thing that always amazes me is the size of the sky (I know, probably sounds a bit odd but when you have a lot of grey, big sky is paramount) - so, a few of my favourite sky photos.

amsterdam

was very lucky to have a wonderful break in amsterdam this past weekend - a favourite city of mine and of course it didn't disappoint.
now this is how one cycles in the rain!
breakfast of champions.....

london bits

been in london almost six years and i've never really spent much time in richmond - not sure why as its really stunning down there.  went on a boat ride and thought i'd share some photos from the day.

parklife

its a completely glorious easter weekend here in london.  time spent in the park.
these guys were great fun to watch - think they were part of the circus round the corner.  practising their stuff.  felt like cheering everytime the got it right.

signs back in time.

wondering around valetta, capital of malta, i was completely in awe of all the absolutely fantastically cool retro signs on the buildings - so much so, i think i must have photographed every single one of them....but here's only a few of the best.
there is also a case of a sign nowhere near where its supposed to be....

to the "i'm not quite sure what to make of this one......"
and then back to old school cool.....

i want to go back......
